SENTINEL FLAVOR TABS® from Novartis Animal Health
We are pleased to announce that Novartis Animal Health, Inc., in its support of the assistance dog movement, has established a unique program to provide Sentinel Flavor Tabs® for members of the International Association of Assistance Dog Partners working with guide, hearing and service dogs Sentinel Flavor Tabs® provide protection for dogs against canine heartworm disease, as well as controlling fleas and several important intestinal parasites.
Dr. Robin Downing, DVM, CVA, DAAPM, a member of IAADP's Animal Health Care Community Advisory Board and Director of the Windsor Veterinary Clinic will be coordinating the distribution of this product during the pilot program.
Dr. Downing tells us: "Sentinel is NOT just about heartworms anymore... Several years ago the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta issued guidelines for zoonotic disease management that included year-round parasite prevention in dogs. This means administering a broad-spectrum parasite control product to dogs year-round. Sentinel protects against canine heartworm disease, but it also protects against the major classes of intestinal worms dogs can get and then transmit to people. It just makes good common sense for people partnered with assistance dogs to do all they can to keep themselves safe and their assistance dogs healthy."
IAADP is very grateful to Novartis for protecting the health of assistance dog teams with its generous gift of this product. We also want to express our appreciation to Dr. Robin Downing for working out a distribution system through her clinic so IAADP partner members in the USA can receive Sentinel at no charge at this time.
Please note that proof of a negative heartworm test will be required. An assistance dog partner member’s veterinarian must fill out and fax the form enclosed in the new member packet to Dr. Downing. The form must list the team’s IAADP membership card ID Number and be filled out in its entirety. After processing the request, Dr. Downing will mail a one-year supply of Sentinel Flavor Tabs® to the team’s home address.
